Countryfolk Mountain Man Rendezvous & Youth Music Scholarship Weekend July
25-26, 2009
Additional exhibitors volunteering their time include;
Steven Van Syckel "White Cooper" (barrel-maker and one of the Ancient Ones
of Maine) from Hiram will demonstrate barrel-making as well as buckets,
firkins etc. and Loren Shuck of Greene displaying /trading vintage Griswold
cast-iron cookware, canoe paddles, snowshoes and indian prints and
lithographs and the Carrabassett Valley Trappers with trapping demos.

Steve Van Syckel, cooper at work in his baker's tent. He will be
demonstrating at the Countryfolk Music Theatre Mountain Man Rendezvous on
route 2 in East Dixfield on July 25-26 during the Youth Music Scholarship
Weekend. Also in attendance will be the Old Crow Indian Band of Farmington
as well as 50 other musicians over the weekend and some 17 plus reenactors
and exibitors.

night jam from 5-9Pm, Saturday music starts at 8AM to 7Pm and a dance from
7-9PM - 50-60 country, folk, gospel and bluegrass musicians thru the
weekend.

Countryfolk To Host Mountain Man Rendezvous & Country Jamboree
The Countryfolk Music Theatre on US route 2 in East Dixfield, Maine will
host a Mountain Man Rendezvous as part of its Youth Music Scholarship
weekend July 25-26, 2009.
Larry Bisbee, organizer of the project says, " we are looking for trappers,
gem and mineral displays, old Maine craft people, (canoe makers, snowshow
makers etc, moose and deer antler displays and Indian Pow-Wow participants.
Already scheduled, the Countryfolk Youth Music Scholarship weekend will
include more than 50
musicians, banjos to bagpipes, pot luck meals, Tomahawk and knife throwing
demos, , Shadagee Snowshoe Relacing and ash basket-making with Georgia
Tolman, Carrabassett Valley Trappers displays and demos, Gold panning demo with Gary Baril of Byron, campfire pickin', a
country dance, Chainsaw carvings by "Zeke" Elliot, cowboy church with Hall of Famer, Ginger Mae Dyer, a Country
Jamboree with scheduled acts, an open mic, Western Maine Mineral Adventures
from West Paris will have an operating sluice demonstration, day and night
dancing, tailgate trading, the Bullwhip Enthusiasts of Maine demo, chainsaw
carvings, gem and mineral displays, Steven Stone Woodworking of Bethel, Maine, Joe Ross of Wilton with Maine Fly-tieing demos, and much more to be announced.
Guest performers will be the Old Crow Indian Band of Farmington. Bisbee
said, " this year's Countryfolk Youth Music Scholarships will be given in
honor of the Old Crow Band celebrating the community music it's provided
since the early 1950s and its members who have passed on".
Reenactors will live the Mountain Man life for the weekend and all vendors
and tailgater display and demo folks who would like to participate should
contact Bisbee as soon as possible.
Reenactors,tailgaters and display vendors are offered free space and
camping to set up for the weekend. They can come in as early as Thursday and
Friday for set up of tents, tipis. Also van camping for participants is
free. Limited RV space, so call ahead.
Bisbee said all weekend activities are conducted by volunteers and are free
and for families.
Countryfolk also has free Friday night and Sunday afternoon jams thru the
summer.
